Cornwall-based, 4-piece group Ethatone release their debut album. Shot at Carn Kenidjack near St Just, we had to wait for ages to get the crows to fly in the pattern we needed.
Led by the fantastic voice of singer and guitarist Martin Jackson, Ethatone's is a heavy, soulful, almost funky kind of indie-rock sound that is all their own. Jackson's distinctive guitar style is joined by Ben Payne's deep, twisting bass lines, the dynamic grooves of drummer Sam Hill, and the broad textural sweep of Richard Blackborow's keyboards and harmony vocals.
The band's passionate songs are filled with an intense musicality that pulls you irresistably into their alternately dark, determined and beautiful world. The album takes you on a singularly engaging and widescreen musical journey; these are songs that demand your full attention, and that reward that giving generously.
The 11 songs that form Ethatone's debut album were written collaboratively by the group with words by Martin Jackson, and were produced for CD by the band and recording engineer/producer Dare Mason. Truro-based composer, musician and engineer Phil Innes worked alongside the group to mix the record at his studio in Truro.
